Margot Robbie doesn’t want a “Barbie” sequel? “I can’t imagine what comes next

Barbie” turned out to be the biggest box office hit of the year, Warner Bros.’ all-time blockbuster, and the most profitable film in Margot Robbie’s career. Despite this success, she isn’t eager to film a sequel.

In an interview with the Associated Press, the star and producer of “Barbie” stated, “I think we put everything into this one film. We didn’t work on it with the idea of creating a trilogy or something like that. Greta Gerwig (the director) put everything into this film, so I can’t imagine what comes next.”

According to Margot Robbie, the success of “Barbie” (with over $1.4 billion in box office revenue) shows that “original films can still be massive hits.” It doesn’t have to be a sequel, prequel, or a remake, the actress believes. It could be something entirely original and become a huge success as long as the creators have a substantial budget. Just because the lead role is played by a woman doesn’t mean the film won’t interest all four audience groups. That’s an unfortunate stereotype still prevalent among many people.

Robbie thinks that the success of “Barbie” could have a positive impact on the entire film industry. Thanks to it, other creators may receive significant budgets for realizing their spectacular and original ideas.
