We’ve known for a while that the “Stranger Things” finale would be dark, but now Netflix is giving fans a clearer idea of just how dark it will be! The platform has updated the show’s age rating.
New Age Rating for “Stranger Things” – What Does It Mean?
Until now, all seasons of “Stranger Things” carried a TV-14 rating. However, ahead of the fifth season’s premiere, Netflix is changing it to TV-MA, the highest possible TV rating in the U.S.
While age ratings for TV shows don’t impact viewership as much as movie ratings do, TV-MA is significant. In cinemas, NC-17 and R ratings can restrict minors, with some theaters refusing to screen NC-17 films altogether.
For TV series, parental responsibility plays a bigger role in controlling what children watch. Online consensus agrees that the TV-MA rating won’t harm “Stranger Things” in any way.
What Do We Know About the Final Season of “Stranger Things”?
The plot for the final season remains under wraps, but David Harbour emphasizes that the team is making every effort to ensure the finale is a worthy culmination of their work. He also confirmed that Season 5 will continue from the events of Season 4.
“After Season 4’s ending — when we’re on that hill, looking at ash, smoke, and fire — we’re going to start somewhere around there. You have to imagine the world as a completely different place,” he said.
Shawn Levy told Total Film that they couldn’t pick up from Season 4 without amplifying both the scale and depth. “It’s a huge, cinematic spectacle that just happens to be called a series. Season 5 will be as grand as the biggest movies,” he said.
Harbour also recently added that the final season will be a true conclusion:
“The beauty is that it will be a real ending — things will conclude in a very definitive way. Netflix will create spin-offs, but our story, which began in the lab and the Upside Down, is a cohesive, complete tale.”
