Chris Columbus has the perfect candidate to play Voldemort in the “Harry Potter” TV series.

The idea of creating a TV reboot of the "Harry Potter" series emerged in 2023. Since then, there have been numerous suggestions about who should take on the main roles.

While some believe that the new adaptation will never match the original films, others are convinced that the series has the potential to explore aspects that were left out in the previous cinematic adaptation.

Among the enthusiasts of the “Harry Potter” series reboot is Chris Columbus himself. The director of the first two Harry Potter films (“The Philosopher’s Stone” and “The Chamber of Secrets”) also has a dream candidate for the role of Lord Voldemort.

Chris Columbus: “It’s a spectacular idea”

While the internet is buzzing with suggestions for casting choices, including Albus Dumbledore, Severus Snape (read more about it HERE), and Professor Minerva McGonagall (read about it HERE), Columbus shared his idea for casting He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named.

“Well, Cillian (Murphy) is one of my favorite actors, so that would be incredible,” he said.

Columbus isn’t the first to envision Murphy in the role of the Dark Lord. Alongside the support of numerous fans, the actor also has the green light from Ralph Fiennes, who portrayed Voldemort in the film series:

“Cillian is a fantastic actor. It’s a wonderful suggestion. I’d support Cillian,” Fiennes expressed his enthusiasm some time ago.

It also appears that Columbus, who served as the executive producer for the entire “Harry Potter” series in addition to directing the first two films, believes in the success of the series reboot—especially since the TV format allows for more details from the expansive world of the original story to be included.

Columbus explained:

“Film has certain limitations. Ours was 2 hours and 40 minutes, and the second was almost as long. The fact that the creators will have multiple episodes per book is fantastic. This way, they can showcase a lot of things we couldn’t. We had to cut many great scenes. I can’t wait to see what they do with it. I think it’s great.”

The last “Harry Potter” film, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, directed by David Yates, was released in theaters in 2011.
