Arnold Schwarzenegger still has an appetite for action and will once again cause a mighty ruckus on the big screen with “Breakout,” directed by Scott Waugh. Since returning to the film industry after his foray into politics as the governor of California, the now 75-year-old has appeared in several films, including a guest-starring role in his friend Sylvester Stallone’s “Expendables” franchise and reprising his iconic role as the Terminator in “Terminator: Genisys” and “Terminator: Dark Fate.” Schwarzenegger has also tried to expand his acting breadth with films like “Maggie,” which you can stream on Amazon, and “Vendetta,” where all he had to do was seek revenge.
Let’s be honest, Arnie dominates in the action genre where fans want to see him, especially with a lot of humor. With “FUBAR,” Schwarzenegger will make his series debut on Netflix from May 23, 2023, with an action comedy à la “True Lies.” He will also return to the big screen soon, as Deadline reports he will shoot the action thriller “Breakout” with “Expendables 4” director Scott Waugh.
In “Breakout,” Schwarzenegger takes on the role of Terry Reynolds, whose stepson is accused of a crime in another state and sentenced to 25 years in prison. With no chance of legally getting him out and bringing him home, Reynolds decides to attempt a dangerous prison break. But that’s not even the hardest part of the scheme, as he then has to get his stepson across the borders without getting caught.
The film sounds a little like “72 Hours – The Next Three Days” or the French original “Ohne Guilt,” mixed with “Escape Plan,” in which Schwarzenegger starred alongside Stallone. Since “Breakout” is classified as an action thriller, we can assume that not everything will go according to plan in the film.
Clearly, the Styrian oak, as Schwarzenegger is also known, is far from planning to retire. After all, he still has to put up with what is now a friendly competition with Sylvester Stallone. The stars in the video, on the other hand, have long since retired.
Filming by production companies Anton (“Greenland”) and Off the Pier Productions is scheduled to begin later this year in Eastern Europe. Waugh, who attracted attention with the two action films “Need for Speed” and “Act of Valor,” is adapting the screenplay by Richard and Nicole D’Ovidio (“The Call – Don’t Hang Up!”). Aside from Schwarzenegger, no other cast members have been confirmed for the big-budget production. For producer Jeff Elliott, “Breakout” is a film that fans should be aware of:
“We couldn’t be more excited to be working with Scott [Waugh], who just wrapped up the highly anticipated ‘Expendables 4,’ which is [certainly] a hit. Paired with Arnold [Schwarzenegger], arguably the greatest action star in film history, it’s going to be huge fun for audiences around the world.”
It will definitely be interesting to see whether Arnie, even at the age of 75, has enough juice and strength to perform one or the other demanding stunt himself without the need for stunt people or computer effects.”
