In the past week, Bob Iger presented Disney’s financial report for the fourth quarter of 2023. In the process, he talked about plans for the near and distant future. Among them was the information that “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” would be available on the Disney+ platform starting from March. As reported by Puck, Disney paid over $75 million for this opportunity.
Taylor Swift strengthens collaboration with Disney
The battle for streaming rights to “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” was fierce. Alongside Disney, Netflix and Universal (which handled the digital paid distribution of the film) were vying for it. Disney won, offering an astonishing price of over $75 million.
Reportedly, Iger was determined to acquire the rights before announcing the quarterly report to have significant information to share with investors. However, his readiness to spend such a hefty sum for streaming rights to one film may seem surprising. Since returning to his position as Disney’s chief, Iger has initiated drastic cost-saving measures. As a result, thousands of employees were laid off, and some exclusive titles from the Disney+ platform were removed.
“Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour”
Taylor Swift is currently one of the most influential people in the world. Her Eras Tour broke all concert records, generating revenues exceeding one billion dollars.

Taylor Swift is preparing her directorial debut with Disney
“Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour (Taylor’s Version)” is just the latest joint project between Disney and the singer. Her full-length directorial debut is in the works.
The film was announced in December 2022. Swift is not only its director but also the creator of the story. The entire project is to be created for Disney’s Searchlight Pictures. Its details are not yet known.
In Hollywood, Taylor Swift is hailed as an excellent director (she has directed several music videos). She has received praise from legendary cinematographer Rodrigo Prieto and director Shawn Levy, who compared her to Steven Spielberg.
