“Dune 4” is in the works! The first candidate for director emerges

It looks like Warner Bros. has no intention of ending the “Dune” saga just because Denis Villeneuve isn’t interested in staying on long-term. The studio has already started looking for his successor and—if Hollywood insider Daniel Richtman’s reports are to be believed—they may have found one.

“Dune 4” is in the works! The first candidate for director emerges

From “Star Wars” and “Jurassic World” to Arrakis?

Of course, before “Dune 4” is made, Denis Villeneuve must first direct the third installment, which will adapt the second book in Frank Herbert’s series, Dune Messiah.

Initially, Villeneuve planned to take a break from the series, but now everything suggests that “Dune 3” will be his next film. At the moment, reports indicate that filming will begin early next year. However, Deadline recently reported that during a BAFTA awards event, there were rumors that Villeneuve might start filming as early as June.

“Dune 4” will likely be an adaptation of the third book in Frank Herbert’s series, Children of Dune. Richtman claims that the candidate for the director’s role is Gareth Edwards.

Edwards is known for directing Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, a film that divided fans. This year, his latest film, Jurassic World: Rebirth, is set to hit theaters.

In Children of Dune, we witness the dramatic rise of Alia’s fanatical cult. However, a mysterious blind preacher appears, whose message completely contradicts Alia’s teachings. Fearing she will lose power, Alia plots an assassination against Paul’s children. The attempt is not entirely successful—Leto vanishes among the Fremen, where he discovers a terrifying way to save humanity…

Following the success of Villeneuve’s films, Warner Bros. has begun expanding the entire Dune universe. The first result of this effort was the series Dune: Prophecy, which premiered this year.
