“Heartstopper” gets a second and third season on Netflix

Author Alice Oseman is allowed to continue remaking her comic book novels for the television screen, after the first season quickly managed to capture the hearts of both viewers and critics.
Netflix has just released a really happy Friday news for all fans of the teen series “Heartstopper”. The streaming service announces that the British, romantic drama will return for not just one, but two new seasons.
In the first season, which was released almost a month ago, we got to follow 14-year-old Charlie, who openly identifies as gay, for eight half-hour episodes. At the beginning of a new school term, he forms an unexpected friendship but the popular rugby guy Nick, a relationship that eventually begins to develop into something more.
The basis for “Heartstopper” is a collection of comic books of the same name, from the author and illustrator Alice Oseman. Season one was based more specifically on the first two volumes, from a still ongoing series where four books have been released so far. Oseman himself is the screenwriter behind all the episodes of the TV adaptation, and according to Deadline will also write the next seasons.
At the same time, we can expect large parts of the cast to return, including Joe Locke and Kit Connor in the lead roles as Charlie and Nick. Whether we can even see big names like Olivia Colman again, who in the first season surprised in a supporting role, remains to be seen.
After its premiere in April, “Heartstopper”, in addition to reaching great popularity on social media, managed to end up in the top 10 list of the most popular Netflix titles in 54 countries. At the same time, the reviews have been consistently positive, with the series being praised above all for its LGBTQ representation.
