In the Shadow of Jenna Ortega: “Wednesday” Co-Star’s Wishes for New Netflix Episodes

In an interview, Emma Myers discussed the upcoming Season 2 of the Netflix hit “Wednesday” and revealed her hopes for her role.

Even though the mere mention of Tim Burton and the macabre “Addams Family” brand likely piqued interest in advance, no one could have quite anticipated the immense popularity that “Wednesday” would achieve. The quirky horror-comedy coming-of-age series still holds the top spot on Netflix’s list of the most successful English-language series, with a staggering 1.71 billion streamed hours and 252 million views. Looking at it purely from the new metric system of the streaming service, it becomes clear that this record number of views can only be surpassed by Season 2 – possibly by “Stranger Things” Season 5, but the entire runtime of all episodes might likely be longer.

For lead actress Jenna Ortega, the role of Wednesday Addams turned out to be a stroke of luck, turning her into a bona fide star overnight, despite being a seasoned professional in the industry. Since then, her name has had a magnetic pull that studios are eager to harness. Now, the focus is on seizing the momentum and expanding horizons. Perhaps this is why the 21-year-old decided to depart from the “Scream” franchise. Starting in April 2024, the next “Wednesday” episodes will be filmed in Ireland.

Ortega is not the only young actress to gain fame thanks to “Wednesday”; her co-star Emma Myers, who plays Enid Sinclair, also owes a lot to her role. The werewolf character is the complete opposite of Wednesday in terms of personality, loving colorful clothing, listening to K-Pop, and constantly wearing a happy and blissful expression.

For 21-year-old Myers, “Wednesday” marks her first major role; previously, she had only been seen in small roles and short films. She underwent a four-month casting process for the Netflix series (via 1883 Magazine):

“Well, you don’t turn down an audition for Tim Burton! At that point, I hadn’t turned down any auditions, certainly not one for Tim Burton; you don’t pass that up. So, I didn’t really think about whether I should audition or not. […] It’s Tim Burton… it’s ‘The Addams Family’! So, you definitely want to be a part of it. It was a good four months of auditioning. You would audition, then it would be silent, then you would audition again, and then it would be silent again. You go to an audition, and then there’s silence again. There was a lot of waiting and wondering. It was a long process, but it was absolutely worth it.”

“Wednesday” not only gave her a massive career boost but also marks the first time she is returning to a project’s set. She is looking forward to reuniting with her colleagues, although she can’t reveal much about the upcoming episodes. She is as in the dark about the next chapters as the fans:

“You know, nobody really tells me what happens in the second season, so I can’t say anything about it because I don’t know myself. But for Enid, I would just like to see her develop more confidence. She has finally grown into her werewolf abilities, and I would love to see her use them instead of being afraid and getting upset. I would like to see her take charge of things instead of just being dragged along.”

A less passive role, indeed. The finale of the first season likely set the stage in the right direction. If you’re curious about which series are the most-watched on Netflix, take a look at our video.

“Family Switch”: Emma Myers is a Genuine Netflix Star For those who can’t get enough of Emma Myers and are also fans of Christmas, don’t miss the body-switching comedy “Family Switch” on Netflix. In it, she plays the hopeful young soccer player CC, who suddenly swaps bodies with her entire Walker family. Father Bill (Ed Helms) ends up in the body of his intelligent son Wyatt (Brady Noon), Wyatt in the father’s body, CC wakes up in her mother Jess’s body (Jennifer Garner), and vice versa, while the youngest Miles swaps bodies with the family dog Pickles. Initially, Myers had a lot of respect for the comedy genre.

“Family Switch” is available on Netflix. Another classic in the body-switch genre is “Freaky Friday – Ein voll verrückter Freitag,” which you can stream on Disney+.
