Michael Shannon: Multiverse movies are all about figurines, and “The Flash” wasn’t a challenging acting role

Michael Shannon will reprise his role as General Zod in the upcoming show “The Flash.” The actor first portrayed the character in Zack Snyder’s “Man of Steel.” However, this time around, the role didn’t hold the same appeal for him. Why did the performance in “The Flash” fail to meet the actor’s standards?

“The Flash” did not satisfy Michael Shannon’s acting expectations.

To be honest, it was not very fulfilling for me as an actor. These multiverse movies are like playing with figurines. “Here’s this character, and here’s that character. Now they’re fighting!” It didn’t provide the opportunity for character exploration that I experienced in “Man of Steel,” Shannon said.

Shannon explained that the core focus of “The Flash” is Ezra Miller, and Zod’s role in the film is primarily to challenge the film’s star.

Some time ago, Shannon admitted his surprise when offered the chance to reprise the role of Zod, considering his character’s demise in the finale of “Man of Steel.” The actor also had mixed feelings about returning because of his loyalty to Zack Snyder.

I had reservations because I didn’t agree with what happened to Zack Snyder. I discussed it with Andy Muschietti (director of “The Flash”). I told him, “Andy, listen, I need Zack’s approval because without it, I don’t feel right about it.” To Zack’s credit, he was very understanding. He gave me his blessing, and that’s why I appeared in the film, the actor explained.

What do we know about the movie “The Flash”?

“The Flash” will be released in theaters on June 16th. Andy Muschietti, known for directing both parts of the blockbuster horror film “It,” is behind the camera. The screenplay, written by Christina Hodson (“Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn)”), draws inspiration from the Flashpoint comics. The story depicted in these comics has had a significant impact on the overall universe, which will be reflected in the upcoming film.

In addition, we can expect to see Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck reprising their roles as Batman. Ron Livingston and Maribel Verdú will also return as Allen’s parents, while Kiersey Clemons will reprise her role as Iris West. Furthermore, Michael Shannon will reprise his role as General Zod. The Flash’s last appearance was in Zack Snyder’s Justice League.
