“Quake II” is back! The refreshed classic is now available

The return of this iconic game in a remastered form has been rumored for some time. In June of this year, the Korean Game Rating and Administration Commission gave a rating to the then unannounced remaster, which was already a strong indication that “Quake II” is coming back. Yesterday, at Quakecon, the rumors became a fact: the game returns with improvements worthy of our time.

The studio that undertook the task of porting this FPS was Nightdive once again. They are among the few who can breathe new life into older games. They were responsible for porting the first “Quake” two years ago, so it’s no wonder that after such a commendable job and a warm reception by players, Bethesda entrusted them with the remaster of the sequel.

What improvements will we find in this version?

• Support for resolutions up to 4K and widescreens. • Improved models. • Enhanced animations of enemies and brutal effects. • Improved and recreated AI behaviors. • Upgraded cutscenes, dynamic and vibrant lighting, anti-aliasing, and depth of field. • Original, heavy rock soundtrack from Sonic Mayhem and more. • Online multiplayer and co-op.

Furthermore, the game will offer completely new content created by the Nightdive studio. It includes as many as 28 campaign levels and one multiplayer deathmatch map. The new campaign will focus on Machina, a reality-breaking singularity located deep in Strogg space.

The game is available now on Game Pass, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 5, and PlayStation 4. Will you be tempted to revisit this classic?
