Ready for “Top Gun 3”? Tom Cruise will only fly to space and get into the subject

Will “Top Gun 3” come to fruition? Many signs point to it – according to reports from Deadline, Ehren Kruger is currently co-writing the script for a new installment of the iconic series with Tom Cruise.

“Top Gun 3” – what do we know about the project?

Despite Tom Cruise recently signing a lucrative contract with Warner Bros., it seems he will be fully occupied at Paramount. On the set of the new film in the series, Cruise, Miles Teller, and Glen Powell, the actors in the key roles in “Top Gun: Maverick,” are set to reunite, with Joseph Kosinski once again directing.

Currently, Cruise is busy working on the set of “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 2.” His project with NASA and director Doug Liman, where he is set to travel to low Earth orbit, is also slowly taking shape. So, will “Top Gun 3” be the next film on the star’s calendar?

“Top Gun: Maverick” – a cinematic blockbuster

The cinematic debut of “Maverick” was repeatedly postponed. Originally intended for release in July 2019, the producers had to move the premiere date to June 2020 due to extended work on aerial scenes. Further delays were caused by the coronavirus pandemic. The film eventually landed in theaters on May 27, 2022, and instantly became a massive hit, grossing nearly one and a half billion dollars at the box office. Among last year’s theatrical premieres, only “Avatar: The Way of Water” boasts a better result.

“Top Gun: Maverick” is a sequel to the 1986 megahit “Top Gun.” Played by Cruise, Pete Mitchell prepares a group of young pilots for a dangerous mission. One of the proteges of the character is Lieutenant Bradley Bradshaw (Miles Teller), the son of his late friend.

The film was directed by Joseph Kosinski (“TRON: Legacy,” “Oblivion”) based on a screenplay by Ehren Kruger, Eric Warren Singer, and Christopher McQuarrie. The cast of “Top Gun: Maverick” also includes Jennifer Connelly, Lewis Pullman, Val Kilmer, Jon Hamm, and Ed Harris.
