Too Crazy for the MCU: “Captain America 4” Star Wanted to Push the Insane Marvel Source Material

We spoke with the new Falcon actor, Danny Ramirez, on the occasion of the theatrical release of Captain America: Brave New World. He revealed that he had delved deep into the wild comic book source material.

With Captain America: Brave New World, the fourth solo installment of the Captain America films in the MCU franchise hits theaters. The biggest change: Captain America is no longer played by Chris Evans but by Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson, who was handed the shield in Avengers: Endgame.

Too Crazy for the MCU: “Captain America 4” Star Wanted to Push the Insane Marvel Source Material

Since Sam Wilson’s “promotion” left the Falcon position vacant, audiences got to meet Joaquin Torres in the Disney+ original series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. He now fights alongside Sam Wilson and sees himself as the new Falcon. With the film’s release on February 13, 2025, we had the chance to talk to Danny Ramirez, who portrays Joaquin Torres. He discussed his favorite films in the franchise, his role as Joaquin Torres, and his expectations for future projects. But first, check out the trailer for a first glimpse of the film:

If you haven’t had the chance to get to know Joaquin Torres in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Danny Ramirez himself explains how he sees the new Falcon character:

“Joaquin Torres is a young, chaotic bundle of energy who gets to live his dream of being his hero’s partner in crime. He looked up to Sam Wilson before even meeting him. Deep down, he’s just someone who’s living his dream every single day.”

New Falcon Suit: Why Danny Ramirez Trained in the Dark

In the comics, Joaquin debuted just 10 years ago and fights alongside Sam Wilson. The biggest difference between the comics and the film? The Falcon suit design. In the movie, the new Falcon suit has a military-practical design, whereas in the comics, Joaquin fully embraces the “Falcon” name—due to an experiment, he becomes a hybrid of man and bird, with real wings on his arms.

While preparing for the role, Danny Ramirez had no idea what the final suit would look like, so he underwent an intense training regimen just in case. We asked him if he felt relieved or disappointed when he finally saw the military-style suit:

“So, the thing is: I was ready to be the man-bird hybrid. In the months leading up, I had no clue what the costume would be. And it always changes, so I thought, ‘You never know.’ Let me make sure that, just in case they decide to ‘open the chest,’ I look good for the role.”

While he was impressed by the costume department’s attention to detail and the suit’s functionality—blending aesthetics and practicality—there was one downside: the final film doesn’t include a shot of his abs.

“I can’t say I was disappointed—except for the fact that I was in the best shape of my life, and I didn’t get the chance to show it off in that one shot.”

Anthony Mackie is a huge fan favorite. “He’ll tell a story for 10 minutes straight and have you laughing the whole time because he knows exactly when to hit you with a joke,” Ramirez says. “I, on the other hand, am more of a guerrilla comedian. I go up to people and pick the moments when they least expect it before cracking a joke. Like when I see Brave New World director Julius Onah looking stressed—I’ll drop a dumb joke, and he’ll be like, ‘What?’ And then he starts laughing.”

Regarding potential appearances in future films like Avengers: Secret Wars, Ramirez could not—or would not—provide any concrete details, which is not unusual for MCU stars due to secrecy policies. However, he hinted that he would love to remain part of the MCU.

“Of course, it would be a dream to continue being part of this family. But who can say? I didn’t even read the script for Brave New World until right before filming. I don’t know, and I wish I could tell you—but even if I could, I wouldn’t.”

This interview highlights that Danny Ramirez is not only passionate about his work but also deeply appreciates the creative team and the Marvel Universe. While it remains uncertain if and how he will appear in future MCU films, his enthusiasm suggests that fans can look forward to seeing more of him.

For now, MCU fans can experience his adventures firsthand—Captain America: Brave New World is now playing in theaters.
