The plot of the show’s finale is being kept secret, but David Harbour has emphasized in interviews that the entire team is making every effort to ensure the series finale is a culmination of their previous work. He also confirmed that the fifth season would continue the events of the fourth.

After the end of the fourth season – when we’re on that hill, looking at the ashes, smoke, and fire – we plan to start from there. So, you have to imagine that the world is a completely different place – he said.

“You can’t continue the fourth season and not increase the scale and depth,” said Shawn Levy in an interview with “Total Film” magazine. “It’s a big, big cinematic spectacle, which – as it turns out – is called a series. The fifth season of ‘Stranger Things’ will be as big as the biggest movies.”
