Marvel fans have long had a favorite to succeed Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. Now the actor has commented on the candidate.
Wolverine fans can rejoice that Hugh Jackman will make his Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) debut in Deadpool 3, opposite Ryan Reynolds. The announcement came as a surprise last year, since the actor had actually already said goodbye with “Logan: The Wolverine”.
From the looks of it, the upcoming Marvel movie won’t precede Logan: The Wolverine, but will be part of a parallel timeline. So there’s definitely room for multiple Wolverines in the MCU, even aside from Hugh Jackman. Marvel fans have already found their favorite in “Kingsman” star Taron Egerton. Jackman has now told Empire Magazine (via ComicBook.com) about his potential successor:
“Taron is one of the most talented actors out there and yo
u can see his range of acting is incredible. But he still has to be patient and wait.”
“Deadpool 3” means the end for Hugh Jackman
Egerton broke through with the Kingsman series, which you can rent on Amazon, and has since starred in the likes of Robin Hood and Rocketman. As the actor revealed last year, he has even met with MCU boss Kevin Feige to talk about a successor to Wolverine.
Hugh Jackman himself sees the end of his role as Wolverine with Deadpool 3, as he revealed on the Empire Film Podcast in December (via ScreenRant):
“I think of every film as unique. That’s how I see it. I’ll be honest, in the beginning I had a two-movie deal, but I still assumed it was a one-off movie. There were no comic films before. I just take one at a time. I’m lucky in that regard, I don’t have to think ahead, but I think it’s the best way.”
With Hugh Jackman not the youngest at 54, it’s only a matter of time before he’s replaced by a younger actor who can play his character longer. At least Taron Egerton already has Jackman’s blessing, even if he has to be patient.
