Work is underway on the film I Play Rocky, which will depict the behind-the-scenes story of the iconic Rocky. Just now, a new star has joined the cast.
“I Play Rocky” – who has been added to the cast?
The newest cast member is Stephan James — he will portray Carl Weathers, who in the Rocky series played the character Apollo Creed, Rocky’s rival who later became his friend. On screen, he will be joined by Anthony Ippolito, cast as Sylvester Stallone.
This production, in collaboration with Amazon MGM, is being directed by Peter Farrelly (known for Green Book) from a screenplay by Peter Gamble (known for Office Uprising). The film will tell the true story of Stallone, who, in the face of adversity, not only wrote the Rocky screenplay but also starred in it. That film went on to launch one of cinema’s most celebrated franchises, spawning spin-offs through the Creed series and collectively earning nearly 2 billion dollars.
Stephan James – what you might know him from
James first came to critical attention in 2016 with his role in Race. Two years later he appeared in If Beale Street Could Talk. His performance in the series Homecoming earned him a Golden Globe nomination. Born in 1993, he was recently seen in All the Light We Cannot See opposite Vanessa Kirby, and will soon appear in Netflix’s War Machine.
