"Steve" on Netflix: Don't Miss This Heartbreaking Film Starring Cillian Murphy

“Peaky Blinders” fans, already delighted on October 2nd by the announcement of a spin-off of the series, are now thrilled again with the film “Steve,” starring the star actor of Tommy Shelby.

The feature film had already been released in theaters in the UK and the US on September 19th, and is now arriving on Netflix on October 3rd.

Cillian Murphy returns to the spotlight with this film. The Oscar-winning actor, who won a spot in 2024 for his performance in “Oppenheimer,” is at the center of the drama. This creation by Belgian director Tim Mielants marks the director’s reunion with the Irish actor, following their collaboration in 2024 on “Thou Shalt Not Lie.” Starring alongside him, a prestigious cast is announced, including Emily Watson, Tracey Ullman, and the young leading man Jay Lycurgo, who plays one of his first major roles here.

A moving drama
The plot takes viewers to the mists of England, to the Stanton Wood manor. It is in this century-old building that the action takes place in 1996. The establishment turns out to be a school for juvenile delinquents. The audience is immersed in 24 hours in the day of its director, Steve. His daily life is turned upside down by the announcement of the center’s impending closure. The devoted teacher struggles to keep his head above water, while a tragedy from his past consumes him.

Its original format and themes are reminiscent of the hit series

“Adolescence,” whose actor Owen Cooper was recently honored at the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards.

Behind this film is an adaptation of Max Porter’s 2023 bestseller “Shy.” Instead of the story taking the student’s point of view as in the book, the production focuses on that of the wounded principal. Ready to get out the tissues?
