“A bitter disappointment”: “Avatar” live-action series from Netflix receives mixed initial reactions

The first reactions to the Netflix live-action series “Avatar: The Last Airbender” have arrived, and they are divided into two distinct factions.

Following “One Piece,” we are presented with “Avatar: The Last Airbender,” the next Netflix live-action adaptation of an extremely popular animated series. Some media representatives have already had the opportunity to watch the first episode of the soon-to-be-launched adventure series and share their opinions on social media. While some aspects are praised, many are also criticized.

Under the title “Avatar – The Last Airbender,” an animated series debuted in 2005, blending adventure and fantasy and attracting a considerable adult audience despite being classified as a youth series. Both critics and audiences agree: the animated series is a true masterpiece, as evidenced by its ratings of 100% and 98% on Rotten Tomatoes.

After the main series concluded in 2008 with the finale of the third season, the spin-off “The Legend of Korra” followed. Additionally, the universe was expanded through numerous comics, five video games, and the live-action film “The Last Airbender” (which, however, turned out to be a massive flop). Now, Netflix is releasing the live-action adaptation as well.
