A historic event occurred on Thursday: SAG actors went on strike for the first time in 37 years. The duration of the strike remains uncertain. However, it is known that it will significantly disrupt production plans. Despite the strike, one project that will continue unaffected is “Dune: The Sisterhood.”
Filming for “Dune: The Sisterhood” is scheduled to resume soon in Hungary. The series, which has faced numerous obstacles along the way, managed to avoid a disaster this time. This is primarily due to the fact that most acting contracts are handled by the British trade union, Equity. The organization expressed solidarity with the striking actors from SAG-AFTRA while emphasizing the importance of honoring existing contracts.
Production on “Dune: The Sisterhood” commenced in November but recently had a planned hiatus. However, shooting will soon recommence in Hungary.
Challenges with the “Dune” prequel arose as well. “Dune: The Sisterhood” serves as a prequel to Denis Villeneuve’s film adaptation of “Dune” and is set 10,000 years before the events depicted in the cinematic spectacle. The series follows the Harkonnen sisters, who fight against forces threatening humanity’s future and establish the legendary Bene Gesserit order. Operating covertly, the group wields silent control over the universe’s political landscape.
Originally, Johan Renck, the director of the acclaimed series “Chernobyl,” was helming the project. However, his vision did not align with the expectations of the Max platform’s executives, resulting in his departure from the project. Additionally, two of the stars, Shirley Henderson (cast as one of the Harkonnen sisters) and Indira Varma (cast as Natalya), bid farewell to the series.
Nevertheless, Max swiftly found replacements. Anna Foerster assumed the role of the main director, and Olivia Williams (known for her role in “The Crown”) was cast as Tula Harkonnen, while Jodhi May (from “The Witcher”) was chosen for the role of Natalya.
Trailer for the movie “Dune: Part Two” is available.
