“Fallout” Series Only for Game Fans? Nolan Explains

When it comes to adapting well-known source material, the reactions of the most devoted fans of the original can keep those responsible for shaping the new version awake at night. However, Jonathan Nolan, the producer and director of the “Fallout” series, does not count himself among the scared. In a recently conducted interview, he declared that the version of the adventures known from the game series is intended to satisfy the creators themselves, rather than being another example of fan service.

Jonathan Nolan on the “Fallout” Series. Is He Afraid of Fan Discontent?

In a statement to T3, Nolan stated that his main goal in creating the new series for Prime Video is not solely to please game fans. The creator of “Westworld” intends to present his own story, which, in the first step, will meet his criteria for a well-executed work:

“I think it’s impossible to prepare for the satisfaction of the group of fans of the original. Or anyone else, except oneself. I believe that we must make the series according to our own convictions and trust that as creators – and also as fans of the game series – we will be able to create a story with the most important elements in the best possible version.”

“Fallout” – What Do We Know About the Series?

The series will be set in the nuclear-war-ravaged Los Angeles. After the devastation, people must live in underground bunkers to protect themselves from radiation, mutants, and bandits. The production will be set in the same world as the video games but will present a completely new story.

The showrunners of the series are Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Graham Wagner. Nolan directed the first five episodes and, along with his wife Lisa Joy, is also a producer of the series. The main roles will be played by Walton Goggins, Ella Purnell, Kyle MacLachlan, Xelia Mendes-Jones, and Aaron Moten.

The eight-episode production will debut on Prime Video on April 11, 2024.
