The Gargoyles are coming! Gary Dauberman (“It”) and James Wan’s (“Saw,” “The Conjuring”) Atomic Monster studio will be creating a series based on Disney’s animated production.
Dauberman, the screenwriter for “It” and “Swamp Thing” (trailer below), will write the script. He will also be the producer and showrunner of the series. Horror maestro Wan and his partner, Michael Clear, will serve as executive producers. The project is in its early pre-production phase, but it’s already known that it will be filled with a “horror atmosphere.”
The heroes of the three-season series “Gargoyles” were a group of heroic gargoyles living in medieval Scotland who fought against evil. Centuries later, the heroes appeared in Manhattan, where they began their crusade against the forces of darkness anew.
In July, the Belfast Telegraph reported on a second Gargoyles production. Kenneth Branagh was said to be preparing for its realization, but this rumor was debunked by the original series creator, Greg Weisman.
The Gargoyles movie project is a classic Hollywood “stalled project.” In 2011, a new story created by David Elliot, co-writer of “G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra,” and produced by Lauren Schuler Donner, almost went into production. Ultimately, the project was canceled. In 2018, Jordan Peele (“Get Out”) pitched his idea for a film to Disney, but even then, pre-production work did not begin. Will it be different this time?
