Traditionally, just before the Oscar ceremony, the Film Independent Spirit Awards ceremony took place, sometimes referred to as the “independent Oscars.”
Nomination leaders didn’t disappoint.
In the film categories, the leaders in nominations were: “Previous Life,” “Obsession,” and “American Fiction.” They all had five nominations each, and two of them won several awards.
“Previous Life” won two awards, including the most important one – for the best film.
The creators of “American Fiction” also received two statuettes (for the screenplay and leading role). “Obsession” ended the evening with one win.
The creators of the film “Winter Break” received the most statuettes, as they won three.
“Previous Life” is the film of the year.
In the serial categories, two titles triumphed. “Ruckus” received two statuettes, including the one for the best new narrative series.
Also, two acting awards went to “The Last of Us.”
