The trend of reviving classics continues strong. Roland Emmerich has announced that he is working on a series adaptation of Lawrence of Arabia. Is he the right man for the job?
According to the blog World of Reel, Roland Emmerich plans to create a series inspired by Lawrence of Arabia, consisting of three seasons. Anthony McCarten (Bohemian Rhapsody) is expected to write the script for the first season. It’s still unknown who will finance the project. The director mentioned that it won’t be a cheap production—its budget is estimated to exceed $100 million.
In recent years, Roland Emmerich has directed the requel Independence Day, the war drama Midway, and the sci-fi spectacle Moonfall. His latest project is the series Those About to Die, which can be found on Prime Video.
Lawrence of Arabia hit theaters in 1962. A year later, it triumphed at the Academy Awards, winning seven Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Director. Here’s a reminder with the trailer:
Peter O’Toole portrays Thomas Edward Lawrence, a British archaeologist and diplomat who served in the Middle East during World War I. He succeeded in uniting warring Bedouin tribes and forming a guerrilla army. Under his leadership, the Arabs achieved several great victories and drove the Turks out of their homeland.
