Is the new “Highlander” a prequel to the series with Lambert? Stahelski talks about working on the film

Up until now, we had limited information regarding the “Highlander” reboot featuring Henry Cavill. However, Chad Stahelski, who is leading the project, has now provided an update on its details.

What do we know about the “Immortal” reboot?

During an interview on Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast, Chad Stahelski shared some insights about the “Immortal” reboot he is working on. He disclosed that the new narrative might serve as a prequel to the original 1986 film.

“We already have some very promising elements,” he stated. The challenge lies in the “there can only be one” concept; you can’t eliminate all of them right away. I’ll be the first to say that many familiar characters will be part of our story. However, we’ve also incorporated elements from the series and are attempting to create a sort of prequel—a tale delving into the origins of The Gathering—allowing us room for expansion.”

The lengthy journey to reboot “Immortal” for the big screen

Initial rumors regarding the “Immortal” reboot surfaced in 2008. Over the years, various directors like Justin Lin (known for the “Fast and the Furious” series) and Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (“28 Weeks Later”) were linked to the project. In 2021, it was announced that Henry Cavill would be taking on one of the lead roles. Chad Stahelski, who is currently directing, asserts that the movie will represent a modern-day tragedy more grounded in reality compared to the original films and series.
