A Nightmare on Elm Street. Freddy Krueger actor Robert Englund revealed in an interview which actor could be his successor.

While the “Halloween” series has only recently received a new horror trilogy, fans of “Friday the 13th” and “Nightmare on Elm Street” have been waiting in vain for new films from the popular slasher brands. Both series were last rebooted in the late 2000s, but without further sequels. Even if it has been rumored for years that new films are to come, horror fans still have to be patient.

Unlike Friday the 13th, the Nightmare on Elm Street series is inextricably linked to one star: Robert Englund. The actor played child killer Freddy Krueger across eight films. In an interview with Variety, Englund explained why fans will have to do without him in a potential new Nightmare movie:

“I’m too old and too fat to play Freddy now. I can’t shoot fight scenes for more than one take, I have neck and back pain and arthritis in my right wrist. So I have to stop doing it, but I wouldn’t mind a cameo.”

Robert Englund wants Kevin Bacon to succeed him
At the same time, Englund has once again spoken about a possible successor who could inherit Englund in a sequel. We’re talking about Kevin Bacon:

“I know he respects the genre and he’s a great physical actor. I think it would be interesting in the quiet moments and how Kevin moves.”

Kevin Bacon was in the first Friday the 13th movie, followed by Tremors and the dark sci-fi film Flatliners. He was last seen in the slasher They/Them. So Bacon’s experience with the genre speaks for him. However, at 64, he is no longer the youngest. So a new franchise with Bacon at the helm would be difficult.

In response to Englund’s comments, another horror actor, Devon Sawa, has been brought up for discussion. The Final Destination star tweeted:

It remains to be seen whether a new “Nightmare on Elm Street” movie will actually be coming anytime soon and who will then play the iconic slasher killer.
