The live-action version of “The Little Mermaid” hits theaters in a few weeks. There is already a small foretaste of one of the new songs.

Meanwhile, Disney has already relaunched a large part of its popular animated films as a modern live-action variant. Including “Beauty and the Beast”, “The Lion King”, “Aladdin” and “Cruella”. The next Disney classic in a new guise, “Arielle, the Mermaid” awaits us shortly.

Like the 1989 cartoon, the new film is about the mermaid Ariel (Halle Bailey) who swaps her voice for legs in order to live with humans and win over Prince Erik (Jonah Hauer-King). Just like in the original, the well-known musical songs await us here. Entertainment Tonight has now released a first excerpt from the iconic song “Under the Sea”, in which the crab Sebastian (Daveed Diggs) can also be seen and heard:

Halle Bailey is looking forward to the start of the film
In an interview with Deadline at the film’s premiere, Halle Bailey spoke about how excited she is for the film to hit theaters soon and hopes she can play her part in representing people of color:

“This moment means everything to me. I’m so happy that I can be here. I am very honored and glad that the day has finally come when we can watch it […] It means a lot to me, especially for the beautiful babies who will see a reflection of themselves. I’m just honored that I can be a part of it and now I’m one of the princesses. Because for me it was Brandy [Norwood] as Cinderella and Anika Rose as Princess Tiana. The fact that I can continue this legacy is exciting and I’m just grateful.”

In this country, “Arielle, the mermaid” will start in cinemas on May 25, 2023. First voices reacted positively to the film. It remains to be seen whether the general public will warm to Disney’s latest live-action film adaptation. In preparation for the film, you can stream not only the animated film on Disney+, but also the “Arielle” series and the animated film sequel.
