Sonic will return to theaters in two years
Paramount revealed the release date following the massive success of Sonic the Hedgehog 3, which has become the highest-grossing installment of the series. The film has earned over $420 million globally. The second installment brought in $405 million, while the first earned $302.5 million during the pandemic year of 2020.
The studio also noted that interest in the previous films surged after the release of Sonic the Hedgehog 3. Since its premiere, Paramount has made over $180 million from rentals and purchases of the earlier films.
At this moment, little is known about the fourth installment, except that its U.S. release date is set for March 19, 2027. The studio has not yet announced who will direct the film (Jeff Fowler directed all three previous entries) or who will write the screenplay.
It is almost certain that Ben Schwartz will reprise his role as the voice of the titular character. Will Jim Carrey and/or Keanu Reeves return? That depends on what the studio offers them.
