To sweeten the anticipation, cinematographer Lawrence Sher provided a promising update for the sequel in an interview with Definition Magazine: Post-production is now nearing completion. Sher also revealed more (via ComingSoon.net):
“What I appreciate about Todd Phillips – with whom I’ve made seven films, including ‘Joker’ – is that he always takes risks. We have the new ‘Joker’ film coming out next year, and we’re in the final stages of post-production. This film is a real blast and will truly surprise the audience. I’m very much looking forward to when everyone gets to see it.”
The Joker is one of the most iconic comic book villains.
What to Expect in “Joker: Folie à Deux” In Todd Phillips’ second “Joker” film, Joaquin Phoenix once again takes on the titular role. The “Joker” sequel continues the events of the first part, as the Joker finds himself in Arkham Asylum for his criminal actions. There, he meets psychiatrist Dr. Harleen Quinzel, also known as Harley Quinn (Lady Gaga). He manipulates her affection to break out of the psychiatric institution. Together, the Joker and Harley Quinn create even more chaos in the already unstable city of Gotham City – apparently, they do so with singing.
“Joker: Folie à Deux” has high expectations and big shoes to fill, as “Joker” was among the top 10 highest-grossing films at the international box office in 2019 and was celebrated by numerous critics and even more so by the audience (critics’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes: 69%; audience rating: 88%). Moreover, “Joker” received multiple Oscar nominations and won two in the categories of Best Actor and Best Original Score.
