“Scream VII” has no director! “A Dream Turned into a Nightmare”

If you’ve been following the drama surrounding the movie “Scream VII,” the following news shouldn’t surprise you. After the project lost two of its stars, we now learn that Christopher Landon has stepped down as the director of the film.

“Scream VII” in ruins. What happened?

Landon, who took over the director’s role from Radio Silence (who moved to Universal Pictures to shoot a film as part of their monstrous universe), announced on Saturday that he is no longer the director of “Scream VII.” However, he revealed that he actually resigned seven weeks ago, at a time when the world was in shock over reports that both Melissa Barrera and Jenny Ortega were no longer part of the cast.

“It was a dream job that turned into a nightmare,” Landon wrote on Twitter. Recall that when the news broke that Barrera had been released, Landon did not hide his frustration and the fact that the decision was made without consulting him.

Great success and great drama. What’s next for the “Scream” series?

“Scream VII” was conceived as the final part of the trilogy about the adventures of the Carpenter sisters. The problem was that both Ortega and Barrera had signed contracts for two films, so another agreement was needed.

Barrera signed a new contract. However, when Israel retaliated after an attack by Hamas, the actress did not mince words. The studio deemed her public statements as promoting antisemitism and hate speech, leading to her dismissal.

In Ortega’s case, it was about money. The actress, who now has attractive offers to choose from, demanded a salary one digit higher than what she received for the previous films as a condition for her return. It was a deliberately prohibitive offer, as Ortega was not very keen on returning to the series and knew that Spyglass would not be willing to pay up (the studio had previously rejected Neve Campbell’s financial demands, and that’s why Sidney did not return to the series). The actress’s predictions came true, and Spyglass decided not to renew her contract.

In such circumstances, it’s currently unknown what “Scream VII” will be about.
