“Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” named Animation of the Year. Wins 7 Annie Awards

The Annie Awards, honoring animation creators, were presented on Saturday. The 51st edition in film categories was overwhelmingly won by “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse”.

Annie 2024 awards for the film “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” and the series “Blue Eye Samurai”.

“Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” achieved a rare feat by winning awards in all categories it was nominated for. It ended the evening with seven accolades, including, of course, Best Animation.

This undoubtedly positions it as a frontrunner for the Oscars in less than a month.

“Shimmer” started the evening with the most nominations (nine), but ended the Annie Awards journey with only two statues. The creators of “Boy and Heron” also received two awards.

In the television categories, the Netflix production “Blue Eye Samurai” proved unrivaled. The series had seven nominations and won six awards.

“Marvel’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur” took home three awards, while “Star Wars: Visions” won two.

“WAR IS OVER! Inspired by the Music of John and Yoko” emerges as an Oscar favorite for Best Animated Short, as it won that award at the 2024 Annie Awards.

“Between Us Elements” among the biggest losers

The Annie Awards 2024 also have their big losers.

The biggest is undoubtedly “Between Us Elements”. The Oscar-nominated film was up for six Annie Awards but didn’t win a single one.

The animation “Suzume” also performed poorly. It had potential to win up to seven awards, but the creators didn’t receive any.

Also left without awards were the creators of “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Chaos”. The film started the evening with six nominations.
