Steve Carell revealed he would like the little bit of “danger” in the Despicable Me franchise.
The 59-year-old actor has voiced supervillain Gru in four of the films and loves working on the projects, saying they are “not condescending to children”.
Speaking at the Cinema Con event ahead of the release of ‘Minions: The Rise of Gru’ this summer, Steve said: “These are really good movies. They aren’t patronizing towards the kids either and that’s one of the reasons I went with it When I read the first script and saw all the artwork I thought there’s a little danger here and kids love it – not too much but just enough to be exciting and new and different, it had a different tone .” The ‘The Office’ star also revealed the origin of Gru’s funny voice and says he adopted it because it could make his kids laugh. “The reason I actually do this voice is because it’s the voice that made my kids laugh.
When I walked in before I did my first recording, I said, ‘Hey guys, (Gru voice) ‘What are you thinking of? Is it this one?’ And they said, ‘That’s it, just do it.’” ‘Minions: The Rise of Gru’ will be released in June after being delayed by two years due to the coronavirus pandemic.
