James Gunn had a busy weekend as he observed on-camera rehearsals for the roles of Clark and Lois in “Superman: Legacy.” The Hollywood Reporter also unveiled new plot details and potential candidates for the main villain role.
Behind the scenes of the casting for Clark and Lois, the hearings took place on Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday, the actors were in Clark Kent makeup and costumes, while on Sunday, they appeared in Superman costumes.
During Saturday’s scenes, Nicholas Hoult acted alongside Rachel Brosnahan, Tom Brittney paired with Phoebe Dynevor, and David Corenswet shared scenes with Emma Mackey. On Sunday, all three actors participated in the casting, but only Mackey was among the female candidates. While The Hollywood Reporter cautions against excessive enthusiasm, it appears that Emma Mackey is the frontrunner for the role of Lois Lane.
Moving on to Lex Luthor, The Hollywood Reporter states that James Gunn has potential candidates for the role. Those who have applied for the position include:
It’s not out of the question that Hoult is still in the running. Initially, he was the top choice for Lex Luthor but declined the role as he wanted to try his hand at playing Superman. If Mackey doesn’t secure the part (with Corenswet being the Twitter favorite), Hoult might reconsider his decision.
As for “Superman: Legacy,” James Gunn aims to begin filming the first movie in the new vision of the DC universe in early 2024, with a scheduled premiere in July 2025. Plot details remain undisclosed; however, according to The Hollywood Reporter, this iteration of the Man of Steel’s story will feature a world where superheroes are commonplace and associated with a group known as the Authority.
Meanwhile, in theaters, audiences can enjoy one of the last productions from the previous DC Studios leadership.
