The first trailer for ‘Dune 2’ was unveiled at CinemaCon. Fans of the first installment can anticipate more action and combat in the upcoming film.
With the first ‘Dune’ film, Denis Villeneuve offered us his interpretation of Frank Herbert’s legendary science fiction novel. However, the initial movie only served as an introduction to the world of Dune and the desert planet Arrakis. It is only in ‘Dune 2’ that the protagonist, Paul (played by Timothée Chalamet), will become the leader of the Fremen and engage in a war against his foes, the Harkonnen.
A trailer for the film was recently presented at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, offering a glimpse of what’s to come. According to /Film, the trailer shows Paul and Chani (played by Zendaya) growing closer, as well as the iconic scene of Paul riding a sandworm from the novel. The film also stars Florence Pugh as Princess Irulan, daughter of Emperor Shaddam IV (played by Christopher Walken), and Austin Butler as the villain Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen, who is portrayed with completely shaven white skin and black eyes. The trailer concludes with an intense battle sequence.
According to director Denis Villeneuve, ‘Dune 2’ is the main course compared to its predecessor, with much more action and an epic war movie feel (as reported by IndieWire). Villeneuve describes Florence Pugh’s character as a ‘political chess player’ and Austin Butler’s Feyd-Rautha as a ‘psychotic serial killer crossed with an Olympian swordsman.
‘ Fans can also expect new and imaginative set designs in the upcoming film. Excitingly, ‘Dune 2’ was entirely shot in IMAX format, which promises a grander cinematic experience for IMAX viewers. The second part of the science fiction epic is set to release in theaters on November 2, 2023.
