There is a first trailer to admire for “The Walking Dead” spin-off with a focus on fan favorite Daryl Dixon, and it looks pretty familiar.
The once hugely successful zombie survival drama series “The Walking Dead” is no longer playing the cultural role it once occupied. None of its previous spin-offs, whether “Fear the Walking Dead,” “World Beyond,” or “Tales of the Walking Dead,” have achieved the same cross-societal popularity that the main series, “The Walking Dead,” did at its best. Things looked better with the spin-off titled “The Walking Dead: Dead City,” which at least features two fan favorites in Negan Smith (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and Maggie Greene (Lauren Cohan).
The next spin-off, “The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon,” takes the same line, as the title already suggests directly – the quiet, introspective, but compassionate and loyal loner Daryl Dixon, played by Norman Reedus, is the focus. He may prefer seclusion and solitude to living among people, but even Dixon might find waking up in an entirely different country on the other side of the world unsettling, especially when strangers try to kill him. The brand new first trailer, revealed at San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC), shows exactly what “The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon” is all about:
“The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon” – The next season is already approved
Towards the end of the main series “The Walking Dead,” Daryl Dixon preferred to fend for himself. After the turbulent events of the past few years, the loner probably needed a certain amount of time to himself. He must have had this time, as all of a sudden, he finds himself on the French coast – without the slightest idea how he could have crossed the Atlantic Ocean. Apparently rescued by nuns, he wakes up in a remote convent. From the order, he receives the task – “The Last of Us” says hello – to accompany a boy named Laurent to his destination. At least the sisters agree that the boy could hold the key to the revival of humanity. However, France is in no way different from the USA: the undead lurk everywhere, while the real danger emanates from the living. Will Daryl complete his mission and find a way back to Carol (Melissa McBride) and Judith (Cailey Fleming)?
One thing is for sure: the six-part miniseries contains everything that horror and “The Walking Dead” fans know, love, and desire. Additionally, it features a fresh setting that doesn’t deviate too far from what has always set the series apart from the competition in terms of atmosphere. The confidence of those responsible for this spin-off is evident as the series was renewed for a second season before the US start on September 10, 2023, as revealed by Dan McDermott, President of Entertainment at AMC, during SDCC (via Screen Rant):
“We’re excited to bring the apocalypse to France as ‘Daryl [Dixon]’ premieres, transforming Notre Dame, Pont du Gard, and other iconic locations into an apocalyptic landscape unlike anything seen before.”
In addition to Norman Reedus, the spin-off, led by showrunner Angela Kang, also stars Clémence Poésy, Gilbert Glenn Brown, Adam Nagaitis, Anne Charrier, Louis Puech Scigliuzzi, and Eriq Ebouaney. In Germany, the spin-off will be shown on MagentaTV. You can book the service with or without a Telekom contract.
