DC fans are starting to worry that they’re experiencing déjà vu. The situation surrounding the film The Batman Part II is beginning to resemble the time when Ben Affleck was set to direct his own Batman movie. Will the new film suffer the same fate as that project? Recently, Jeff Sneider addressed the matter on the The Hot Mic podcast.
Despite rumors, The Batman Part II is not seriously delayed. But what if that changes?
Like Affleck’s Batman, The Batman Part II has struggled with significant script issues. In both cases, the scripts weren’t ready on time, repeatedly delaying the start of production. Affleck also faced personal problems, which reportedly may also be the case for Matt Reeves (according to rumors, involving a serious illness of someone close to him). Ultimately, Affleck gave up, and his Batman movie was never made.
Fans fear that the same could happen to The Batman Part II. Their concern grew after it was announced that Robert Pattinson had joined the cast of Dune: Messiah. Almost simultaneously, rumors began to circulate that filming had once again been delayed and that the cameras wouldn’t start rolling until 2026.
Jeff Sneider is currently trying to calm fans. In his view, there has been no major delay. Pattinson will be filming Dune: Messiah in the summer, which means he’ll be free to don the Batman suit in the winter. Sneider doesn’t rule out the possibility that filming may be pushed from December 2025 to January 2026, but he doesn’t consider that a serious delay.
However, Sneider also shared a very concerning thought: if The Batman Part II does face a significant delay, Matt Reeves may end up leaving the project. In that case, DC Studios would be faced with a decision—continue the project with a different director, or scrap the film entirely in favor of the already announced Batman film titled The Brave and the Bold.
For now, The Batman Part II is scheduled to hit theaters in October 2027.
