“I Am Legend 2” is on its way to the screen. What do we know about the film?

Will Smith revealed that work on the sequel to “I Am Legend” is underway during the ongoing film festival “Red Sea” in Saudi Arabia. Akiva Goldsman, who wrote the original, already has a completed script. Director Francis Lawrence is also returning for the project.

Despite the death of Robert Neville, played by Smith, an American virologist, the actor confirmed that he will return to the role. We’re starting from the mythology in the DVD version, where my character is alive. I can’t reveal anything more – he said.

In a conversation with Deadline, screenwriter Akiva Goldsman admitted that the inspiration for the “I Am Legend” sequel is the series “The Last of Us.”

The action will take place a few decades after the events of the first part. I have an obsession with “The Last of Us,” where we also see a post-apocalyptic world, but 20-30 years after the disaster. We see how nature reclaims the world, and we can ask ourselves what will happen when humans stop being the dominant species, and there’s something beautiful about it. This will be particularly evident in New York. I don’t know if they will climb the Empire State Building, but the possibilities are endless – he said.
