You win the lottery & everyone wants to kill you: First trailer for the crazy Amazon comedy

John Cena and Awkwafina star in the upcoming Amazon comedy “Jackpot!,” for which a wild first trailer has been released.

Winning the lottery is a great thing. All that money can be a real blessing – or a curse. Generally, the lucky winners are advised not to tell too many people about their win and to confide only in their closest family and friends if necessary. The temptation for some to claim a piece of the pie can be too great. But what if everyone on this planet learns about the win and gets the opportunity to claim it themselves – by taking out the person who hit the jackpot first? That’s the truly wacky premise of the upcoming Amazon comedy “Jackpot!,” which feels like a mix between “John Wick” and “Running Man.”

The truly original-crazy idea comes from screenwriter Rob Yescombe. Interestingly, he comes from the video game industry and primarily writes stories for action and sci-fi projects. With “Outside the Wire,” he made his film debut for the competition, Netflix. “Jackpot!” is his first venture into comedy.

The director responsible is even more experienced: none other than Paul Feig directed here. With “Bridesmaids,” “The Heat,” and “Spy,” he made millions laugh. Recently, the 61-year-old has also tried his hand at other genres like fantasy with “The School for Good and Evil,” mystery with “A Simple Favor,” and romance with “Last Christmas.” Hard to believe: “Jackpot!” is his first comedy in eight years. And the first trailer shows he hasn’t lost his touch:

With Awkwafina and John Cena in the lead roles, an unexpected dream team emerges. Both are extremely versatile stars, not only at home in comedies but also in drama (Awkwafina) and action (John Cena).

“Jackpot!”: John Cena must protect Awkwafina
In the near future, 2030: Katie (Nora Lum, aka Awkwafina) is a struggling actress trying to land a role in a production in the acting mecca of Hollywood. In the midst of this financial crisis, she hits the multi-billion dollar “Grand Lottery” jackpot. Normally, this would be a cause for celebration, if it weren’t for the rather deadly rule of the game that she has to stay alive until dawn the next morning. Everyone can claim the pot of money for themselves by simply taking out Katie. To increase her chances of survival, the lottery sends agent Noel Cassidy (John Cena) to assist her in the upcoming fight for life and death.
