250 million for a Christmas movie? Because Dwayne Johnson was starring

Dwayne Johnson has built a legend for himself as the hardest working actor in the industry. Disgusted crew members recounted how The Rock didn’t want to waste time, so he wouldn’t leave the set to use the restroom but instead urinated in a bottle during breaks between shots. However, The Wrap describes a completely different behavior from Dwayne Johnson.

The most expensive Christmas movie in cinema history?

The Wrap article concerns the film “Red One”. It’s a Christmas action comedy being made for Amazon MGM Studios. Its star is none other than Dwayne Johnson, and on set, he was partnered with Chris Evans and J.K. Simmons.

“Red One” is a story of a rescue mission organized after Santa Claus is kidnapped. The mission is entrusted to officers of the special unit E.L.F. (Extremely Large and Formidable) and an experienced bounty hunter. They have little time. They must rescue Santa before Christmas, or else the holidays will be ruined.

Dwayne Johnson and director Jake Kasdan The film is being made with Johnson’s regular collaborators: screenwriter Chris Morgan (“Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw”) and director Jake Kasdan (the “Jumanji” duology). For Amazon, it was supposed to be an easy path to building a new lucrative series. However, the film, which was supposed to premiere on Christmas 2023, still hasn’t been shown to the world (the premiere is now planned for November 2024). Why?

Amazon officially claims that “Red One” was delayed due to last year’s strikes. However, The Wrap presents a completely different picture of the situation.

According to the portal, the blame lies with Dwayne Johnson, who behaved completely unprofessionally during the production. He would sometimes show up on set 7-8 hours late, forcing the crew to stand idle or work double and triple time just to shoot something without the actor. Sometimes, however, everyone on set preferred him not to show up at all because he was completely unprepared.

The Wrap claims that Dwayne Johnson fully exploited the fact that the project was overseen by producers with little experience. They couldn’t control the star and allowed him to run amok.

As a result, the production budget swelled to an amount normally reserved for the biggest cinematic spectacles from popular franchises. The Wrap alleges that the cost of “Red One” exceeded 250 million dollars!

Representatives of Amazon MGM Studios categorically deny The Wrap’s revelations and claim that Dwayne Johnson was professional in every way. The portal, on the other hand, asserts that their story has been confirmed by several people who worked on the film “Red One.”
