“Samaritan” is coming back to the screen. A sequel to the action film with Sylvester Stallone is in the works for Amazon MGM. Sly himself will reprise his role as the recluse superhero, John Smith.
“What do we know about the production of ‘Samaritan 2’?”
The screenplay was written by the original author, Bragi F. Schut. And if the project comes to fruition, it will be another series in his portfolio after “Escape Room.” The author also recently worked on “Demeter: Awakening of Evil,” a film that took about twenty years from the conceptual phase to pre-production. It is not known, however, whether Julius Avery will be behind the camera again (“Overlord Operation”).
The original film premiered on Prime Video in August of last year and, debuting in nearly 240 countries, achieved fantastic results, staying at the top of the most-watched list for three weeks.
“Samaritan” is the story of 13-year-old Sam Cleary. The boy discovers that his mysterious recluse neighbor, Smith (Stallone), is, in reality, the titular superhero who was declared dead 25 years ago. When the city of Granite City, overrun by criminals, descends into chaos, only the forgotten hero can save it from collapse.
“I love action movies that have heart,” admits Sylvester Stallone. “I wanted to play in ‘Samaritan’ because it’s a multi-layered story that viewers can identify with. It’s a morality tale and an exciting spectacle.”
