First, there was criticism, and now one hymn of praise after another follows: “The Flash” is surprisingly well-received by the audience, which includes Tom Cruise and Stephen King.
“The Flash” garnered negative headlines in advance due to the scandals surrounding Ezra Miller and the film’s delayed release. However, in fan circles, the new DC film is receiving abundant praise. According to Comicbook.com, Stephen King and Tom Cruise are now counted among its big supporters.
As early as March, several prominent individuals commented on “The Flash” and lauded DC’s latest work. James Gunn, the director of “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” and DC boss, referred to “The Flash” as one of the best superhero films of all time. Additionally, David Zaslav, the Warner Bros. Discovery boss, had nothing but praise for the lightning-fast gentleman’s 144-minute performance.
The film also received a warm reception beyond DC and Warner. None other than Tom Cruise requested a screening of “The Flash” from David Zaslav and thoroughly enjoyed the film. He was so enthusiastic about it that he personally called director Andy Muschietti to express his love for the movie.
Ezra Miller has been donning the bright red Flash suit since 2016, but other stars have been denied the opportunity for a superhero appearance.
Stephen King also expressed his appreciation for “The Flash.” In an interview with GamesRadar, Andy Muschietti and his sister Barbara Muschietti, who serves as a producer on “The Flash,” revealed that the horror master had already seen the film, and his opinion bolstered the filmmakers’ self-confidence. When asked if they felt pressure from the criticism surrounding “The Flash,” Andy Muschietti replied:
“No. If anything, [we have] more confidence in the thing we did because the movie was done when [Tom Cruise and Stephen King] saw it, so it was a confidence boost, if anything.”
Barbara Musketti added:
“It’s a very cynical industry, and when you hear people who have nothing to do with it […] say something so wonderful—in the case of Tom Cruise, he called us, spoke for 15 minutes, praised Andy, praised the film—it just felt really good because we work really, really hard to make these films.”
If you want to see “The Flash” for yourself, you can do so in theaters starting June 14, 2023. For a sneak preview of Ezra Miller’s other performances as the lightning-fast DC hero, “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” is available on Netflix, and “Justice League” is on Amazon Prime Video. With the Sky Q combo package, you can stream both films at no additional cost, as both streaming services are included in the offer.
