A setback for the new “Fantastic Four”: the director drops out

“Spider-Man: No Way Home” director Jon Watts is leaving the Marvel project.
Marvel Studios’ planned reboot of “Fantastic Four” has caused less fantastic news. Director Jon Watts is no longer on board. Variety writes that the man behind the last three “Spider-Man” movies wants to do more than just superhero movies:

  • Shooting three “Spider-Man” movies was an incredible and life-changing experience for me. I am extremely grateful to have been a part of MCU for seven years. I hope we get to work again and long to see “Fantastic Four” come to life, Watts says in a statement to the media.

Watts will, among other things, direct George Clooney and Brad Pitt in a thriller for Apple. He is also a producer on the next part of the “Final Destination” franchise.

“Fantastic Four” was previously handled by 20th Century Fox, who made two films with Chris Evans and Jessica Alba in 2005 and 2007. Josh Trank directed a darker reboot with Michael B. Jordan in 2015, but the film really flopped – one experience that left Trank “damn traumatized.”

Marvel Studios CEO Kevin Feige revealed in December 2020 that Jon Watts will be directing a new version of the “Fantastic Four” superfamily, now as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The film, on the other hand, has no premiere date and can thus, with the director’s chair empty, take a few more years.

Feige and Marvel recently revealed that they are currently outlining what the next 10 years at MCU will look like. We are not least expecting new movies with Blade, Deadpool and X-Men.
