“Star Wars.” The film is in disarray, and Daisy Ridley gets hefty millions for her return as Rey Skywalker
We recently reported on the problems related to “Star Wars: New Jedi Order.” Now, Jeff Sneider, one of the best-informed people in media covering Hollywood, adds new details.
No script yet, but Daisy Ridley has a contract worth hefty millions
As World of Reel reported a few days ago, the project has been halted, and it is unclear when work on it will resume. This is due to a conflict between Steven Knight and the LucasFilm leadership over the script’s direction.
However, as Sneider reports, Disney is very eager for the return of Rey Skywalker. Therefore, despite all the internal turmoil, they want to secure the presence of Daisy Ridley, who portrays Rey. The studio has thus offered the actress a generous salary – as much as 12.5 million dollars!
The difficult journey to realize “Star Wars: New Jedi Order”
“Star Wars: New Jedi Order” is being born in enormous pain. For a while, it was said to be the first cinematic spectacle since the end of the new trilogy in 2019.
The first delays occurred a year ago. That’s when Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson, after preparing an initial version of the script, left the project. LucasFilm quickly found a successor in Steven Knight.
Unfortunately, the change didn’t speed things up. The script prepared by Knight was returned to him with so many notes that it was easier to throw it in the trash and start over. In theory, Knight is still working on the plot. In practice, his priority is his own film, a continuation of the series “Peaky Blinders.” He is currently fine-tuning its script, aiming to start shooting in the fall.
